Life continues as normal, sailing on Waverley, chasing steam trains and little else.
And that's the last of the slides for 1995 but I continued taking photographs on negative film for reasons which will become clear later. So, for the time being, I have included links here for other major events.

Depart from Edinburgh at 08:49 (I had been staying with Dave for the New Year) behind 37401 "Mary Queen of Scots" and travelled via Linlithgow and Larbert to Stirling (09:50 - 10:40) where 5407 was inserted behind the diesel. Then on via Cumbernauld and Carmyle before dropping 37401 near Strathbungo and steaming on to Kilmarnock (12:56 - 14:03) and Dumfries (16:00 - 16:15) where we picked up 47475 for the last leg into Carlisle (17:08 - 17:30) where 37401 awaited us for the return by the main line over Beatock, turn right at Carstairs and so to Waverley at 19:20 where I got off and caught the 21:30 to Glasgow.

The ticket above belongs to another visit in 1994 but since I took no photos on that occcasion (probably inclement weather), I have included it here.
In the company of friends, I caught the 08:22 train (to Bournemouth I think - it was a 125) from Glasgow having paid 25 for a SuperSaver Return to Barrow in Furness, which allowed travel round the Cumbrian Coast route. Having arrived in Lancaster at 10:44, we had time for a small refreshment before catching the 12:01 to Barrow where we had 5 minutes to change trains for Ravenglass arriving there at 13:50.
The original 3' gauge line up Eskdale was opened on 24 May 1875 to transport hematite iron ore from mines around Boot to the Furness Railway standard gauge line at Ravenglass. It closed in 1913 and reopened two years later as a 15" gauge line to service the Beckfoot granite quarry.
Most of the rolling stock has been heavily modified over the years, parts of River Irt date from 1894 when it was named Muriel, rebuilt and renamed in 1927, modified in 1972 and reboilered in 1977. Northern Rock is an exception, it was built at Ravenglass in 1976.

After further refreshment in the Ratty Arms, we caught the 17:55 to Carlisle (19:26 - 20:05) whence to Glasgow arriving at 21:27.
I don't know why, but I drove up to the East Kilbride road above Cambuslang and took a few photos.

Another ridiculous idea - let's go to York for lunch, taking advantage of a promotion offering two tickets for the price of one, reducing the cost to 24 per head. Three of us got a London train at 08:30 from Glasgow via the East Coast main Line, Dave & Richard boarded the same train at Edinburgh, and off we went. At Berwick the train filled up and we offered our spare seat to a young woman who, after overhearing our conversation for a while, twigged that we were just going to York for a change of pub. She thought we were nuts.
Anyway, we arrived in York at 12:10, had lunch (in a pub), had a quick look round, and spent the rest of the afternoon in another pub until it was time to catch a train at 18:27 which carried us back to Edinburgh whence we caught another train back to Glasgow, arriving at 21:53. I made that 514 miles.

I decided to go for a walk and left the
house at 09:30, wandered down to the Clyde at Carmyle then down the river bank into the city,
arriving at St Enoch's Square at 12:30. After a couple of pints and a cheese and onion toastie
for lunch, I continued downstream at 13:30 and picked up the recently opened Kelvin Walkway,
passing Partick Bridge at 14:20 (and took a photo) and reached Milngavie at 17:40, having walked
about 20 miles. After another couple of pints, I caught the train at 18:52, changed at Hyndland
(19:05 - 19:34) and reached Shettleston at 19:52 (fare 1.65 single).
Another walk. I caught the 09:16 train from Shettleston to Dumbarton Central (2.15) arriving at 09:56 and ambled down through the town to the Rock, arriving there at 10:40. A quick run up to the top to take a few photos and at 11:20 I set off along the Glasgow - Balloch cycle path towards Glasgow. At 12:00, I decided to leave the path where it turned inland under the railway and follow a less well defined path closer to the river but it petered out and I failed to find a way through the derelict oil terminal just downstream of Bowling and had to retrace my steps, having wasted half an hour. I reached Bowling at 13:00 and stopped for a couple of pints in the Station Hotel before continuing at 13:40 along the edge of the harbour to pick up the canal towpath, passing Dalmuir at 14:45, Clydebank at 15:05 and reaching Temple at 16:20. After a couple of pints in Lock 27, I restarted at 17:10 and reached Maryhill (Stockingfield Junction) at 17:40 where I decided 14 miles was enough. I boarded a 61 bus at 17:48 and was back in Tollcross at 18:30.

An SRPS Railtours trip to Inverness for a mere 36. I started early on the 06:22 train to Edinburgh (7.00 cheap day return) arriving there at 07:16 for the 07:40 departure behind 37404 arriving at Stirling at 08:31. There, the loco was replaced by 45871 "Sovereign" and we continued at 09:11. After stops at Perth (10:07 - 10:22), Blair Atholl (11:11 - 11:28) and Dalwhinnie (12:27 - 12:58) we reached Kingussie at 13:14, where I took a couple of photos. We continued at 13:34, passing Aviemore at 13:50 and reached Inverness at 14:40. The return journey left Inverness at 17:08 behind 37404 (did it follow us up to Inverness or precede us?) and we were back in Edinburgh at 21:38 where I caught a train at 21:53 to reach Glasgow at 22:52.

Gourock from Lyle Hill |
I decided to go for a walk, starting on
the 10:05 train from Glasgow to Greenock West (2.90 single) arriving at 10:55 and ambling up
Lyle Hill to admire a fine view over Cardwell & Gourock Bays and Gourock itself. Then back
down to the shore and on through Gourock (12:05) and Inverkip (14:10) to reach Wemyss Bay (12
miles) at 15:15. After some refreshment, I caught the 16:45 train back to Glasgow (3.30
single), arriving there at 17:41.
Another walk. I caught the 09:33 train from Shettleston (3.60 cheap day return to Balloch) and alighted at Dumbarton East at 10:16. After another ascent of Dumbarton Rock, I set off at 11:20 along the banks of the Leven and arrived at Balloch (7 miles) at 13:10. Then a stroll for a mile or so up to the pier to photograph the Maid of the Loch (and Countess Fiona). Back in Balloch, after some refreshment, I caught the train at 16:38 arriving back at Shettleston at 17:35.

I caught the 09:30 Edinburgh train from Queen Street paying 11.50 for a cheap day return to North Berwick, changing at Edinburgh (10:13 - 10:47) to travel on 305502, one of several EMU sets acquired second-hand from down south when the North Berwick line was electrified as part of the East Coast Main Line electrification, and arrive in North Berwick at 11:12. I enquired at the Tourist Office about the possibility of following the shore out to Tantallon Castle and was advised against it as there was no path and at any time I could be cut off by the tide. So, having utilised the facilities of the local public convenience (recently voted best in Scotland, if not the UK) I set off at 11:45 for the three miles along the road arriving at the castle at 12:33. After an hour there, I returned to Berwick and ascended the Law from the east (30 minutes), took a few photos, and descended (12 minutes) into Berwick at 15:30.

After checking out a couple of local hostelries, I caught a train (305501) at 17:20 arriving in Edinburgh at 17:54 where I partook of further refreshment (and possibly met friends) before catching the 19:30 train to Glasgow. Now, according to my diary, I arrived in Glasgow at 22:11 so this may have been the occasion when the train spent a considerable period sitting beside Linlithgow Rugby Club while the line was blocked by a failed locomotive attempting to get into the SRPS siding serving Bo'ness. Another loco had to come from Motherwell to move it. If I remember rightly, I got a 5 voucher in compensation.
And that's the last of the slides for 1994
I took no more slides in 1995, instead I used colour negative film for a walk in Ireland, during which the shutter jammed on this camera, and before I got around to replacing it, I needed a camera at short notice, bought a cheap one and continued with prints for the rest of the year. For the foreseeable future, these can be found elsewhere.
