Margaret McGee was born about 1839 in Shettleston, Lanarkshire to James McGee (c1810 - 1885) and Sarah Dunigan (c1810 - 1889). Her father was a Cotton Hand Loom Weaver, later a Labourer. [See Section MG-5-1 for family background.]

Sarah born in 1862, married William Rogan in 1888 and died in 1922. Cecilia born in 1863, married Michael Connelly in 1906 and died in 1940. James (1) born in 1865 and died in 1866. Mary born in 1866, married Patrick Taggart in 1897. Annie born in 1868, married Michael Mullen in 1895 and died in 1933. Catherine (1) born in 1870 and died in 1872. Margaret born in 1871, married William Coyle in 1897 and died in 1900. James (2) born in 1873, married Jane McNee in 1907 and went to America. Catherine (2) born in 1875, married James McIlhatton in 1908 and died in 1952. Daniel born in 1877, was ordained about 1903 and died in 1951. Thomas born in 1879, married Helen Donnelly in 1910 and died in 1961. Susan born in 1881, joined the Sisters of Charity and died in 1955. Elizabeth born in 1883, married Patrick Kerr in 1909 and went to Australia.
1860 On Thursday, November 29, Daniel and Margaret were married at Eastmuir, Shettleston by P McLaughlin, Pastor of St. Paul's RC Church, after Banns according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.37 at Shettleston on December 1.
Daniel was a Bachelor, gave his age as 23, occupation Farm Servant and usual residence Lightburn, Shettleston Parish. His parents are recorded as James Colvin, Weaver and Secelia Colvin m.s. Murray, both deceased.
Margaret was a Spinster, gave her age as 19 [I've a sneaking suspicion she might have been 20], occupation Farm Servant and usual residence Lightburn, Shettleston Parish. [The McGees had moved there from Shettleston between 1851 and 1855.] Her parents are recorded as James McGee, Road Labourer and Sarah McGee m.s. Dunaghan.
The witnesses were James Colvin [probably Daniel's brother] and Catherine Mooney [a lodger with Margaret's parents in the 1861 Census].
The marriage is also recorded in the register of St Paul's, Eastmuir
"Daniel Colville & Marg. McGee, after due proclamation of Banns, were married by me in the presence of James Colville and Catherine Mooney. Patrick McLaughlin."

She was baptised by Fr Patrick McLaughlin in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on February 2 with sponsors Patrick Monahan and Catherine Mooney.
Sarah married William Rogan on January 2, 1888 and died at Tollcross on September 2, 1922, aged 60.

1866 James died at 7h15m a.m. on Thursday, May 24 at Lightburn, Shettleston, aged 13 months, of intermittent fever after three months (no medical attendant). His death was registered No.72 at Shettleston on the same day by Daniel Colvin, Father, who gave his occupation at that time as Coal Miner.
1866 Mary was born at 9h31m a.m. on Monday, December 3 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Daniel Colvin, Coal Miner and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee who married on November 29, 1860 at Eastmuir. Her birth was registered No.263 at Shettleston on December 8 by Daniel Colvin, Father.
She was baptised by Fr Patrick McLaughlin in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on December 9 with sponsors Thomas McGee and Celilia Colvin.
Mary married Patrick Taggart on September 29, 1897.

Annie married Michael Mullen on January 1, 1895.
1870 Catherine was born at 7h30m a.m. on Wednesday, April 27 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Daniel Colvin, Coal Miner and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee who married on November 29, 1860 at Eastmuir, Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.79 at Shettleston on April 30 by Daniel Colvin, Father.
She was baptised by Fr Patrick McLaughlin in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on May 1 with sponsors James McGee and Sarah Dunigan [her grandparents].
Catherine died before her second birthday on March 13, 1872.

1871 Margaret Hendry Colvin was born at 2h0m a.m. on Tuesday, November 14 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Daniel Colvin, Brusher in Coal Pit and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee who married on November 29, 1860 in Shettleston Parish. Her birth was registered No.231 at Shettleston on November 25 by Daniel Colvin, Father.
The Hendry probably comes from her mother's paternal grandmother who was Margaret Hendry. A William Hendry stood Godfather to Sarah Rogan (Sarah's daughter) in 1897.
Margaret was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on November 26 with sponsors John McGhee (her uncle) and Mrs James McGhee (probably her grandmother). There is no Hendry on the baptism record.
She married William Coyle on April 21, 1897 and died in 1900.
1872 At 6h0m p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, Catherine died at Lightburn, aged 1 year and 11 months, of hydrocephalus after 14 days, certified by R. Steven, Surgeon. Her death was registered No.37 at Shettleston the following day by Daniel Colvin, Father, Present, who gave his occupation as Brusher in Pit.
She appears in the records of Old Dalbeth Cemetery for March 15, aged 2, cause of death "Water in Head" and a fee of 5 shillings. There is no lair reference.
1873 A second James was born at 8h0m a.m. on Tuesday, August 12 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Daniel Colvin, Brusher in Coal Pit and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee who married on November 29, 1860 in Shettleston Parish. His birth was registered No.165 at Shettleston on August 16 by Daniel Colvin, Father.
He was baptised as James Caulkin by Fr. J Brendan Bretti (or Butti), OSF in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on August 17 with sponsors George Noagh(?) and Mary Lavisin.
This James married Jane MacNee on April 1, 1907.
1875 A second Catherine was born at 3h0m a.m. on Wednesday, April 28 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Daniel Colvin, Brusher in Pit and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee who married on November 29, 1860 at Shettleston Parish. Her birth was registered No.150 at Shettleston on May 6 by Daniel Colvin, Father.
She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on May 9 with sponsors James Taylor and Sarah Monaghan.
This Catherine married James McIlhatton on July 2, 1908.

1879 Thomas was born at 7h30m a.m. on Tuesday, September 16 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Daniel Colvin, Storeman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee who married on November 30 (sic), 1860 in Shettleston Parish. His birth was registered No.234 at Shettleston on September 20 by Daniel Colvin, Father.

She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Shettleston on September 25 with sponsors Henry Lynch and Margaret Lavery.
Susan entered the convent of the Sisters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul at Dumfries in 1904, took the habit in 1905 and her vows in 1909. There she remained teaching and working as dietician until 1946 when she moved to the orphanage run by the Sisters at Smyllum Park, Lanark as dietician for all the Sisters' establishments in the West of Scotland. She was still working there when she died in 1955.
1883 Elizabeth (Bessie) was born at 1h0m p.m. on Saturday, December 22 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Daniel Colvin, Salt Storeman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee who married on November 29, 1860 at Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.11 at Shettleston on January 10, 1884 by Margaret Colvin, "her X mark", Mother.

Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGhee. Her death was registered No.286 at Shettleston on the same day by William Coyle, Widower, Present.
There is an entry in the records of St. Peter's Cemetery, Dalbeth on September 8 for the burial of Margaret Coyle, aged 28, cause of death Inflammation, Daughter of the lair owner, Title No.4072, Lair 239 [the same title elsewhere refers to Lair 240 so I presume Daniel bought a double lair], Section 14W at a depth of 8ft [which I think means she was the first burial in this lair]. A fee of 14/6d was paid.
I did not find any birth registration for a child of Margaret and William so assume the child was stillborn.
1901 March 31 The family were still living in a house with three windowed rooms in Lightburn, now called Lightburn Cottages.

Her parents are recorded as James McGhee, Road Surfaceman and Sarah McGhee m.s. Dunnigan, both deceased. Her death was registered No.259 at Shettleston on the following day by James Colvin, Son, Present.

Michael was a Bachelor, gave his age as 33, occupation Iron Dresser and usual residence as 4 Cyprus Place [a tenement on the north side of Old Shettleston Road near Annick Street], Shettleston. His parents are recorded as James Connelly, Hammerman and Mary Connelly m.s. Clark, both deceased.
Cecilia was a Spinster gave her age as 38 [she was 42!], occupation Domestic Servant and usual residence Lightburn, Shettleston. Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGhee.
The celebrant was Daniel Colvin, RC Clergyman [and bride's brother] and the witnesses were James Donnelly and Catherine Colvin.
Cecilia died in 1940.

Catherine was a Spinster, aged 33, there is no occupation recorded but we think she was a teacher and her usual address was Lightburn. Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman, and Margaret Colvin, m.s. McGhee, deceased.
James was a Bachelor, he gave his age as 36, occupation Coal Miner living at 97 Eastmuir Street [now Shettleston Road, east of Killin Street]. His parents are recorded as William McIlhatton, Coal Miner and Mary Jane McIlhatton m.s. McCormick.
The celebrant was Daniel Colvin [bride's brother] and the witnesses were Thomas McCormick and Elizabeth Colvin.
There is no sign of the McIlhattons in the 1881 Census, but there are some McIlhuttons! I have yet to check the film, but the LDS CD has, at 18 Fotheringhams Sq., Old Monkland —

1910 On Thursday, July 14, Thomas married Helen Donnelly at St. Paul's Shettleston after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.85 at Shettleston on the following day.
Thomas was a Bachelor, aged 30, occupation Joiner (Journeyman) and usual address Frames Land, Lightburn, Shettleston. His parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGhee (deceased).
Helen was a Spinster, aged 25, occupation dressmaker and usual address 6 Budhill Avenue, Shettleston. Her parents are recorded as John Donnelly, Plumber (Master) and Mary Donnelly m.s. Thompson.

Davidson, MBCM. His parents are recorded as James Colvin, Weaver and Cecilia Colvin m.s. Murray, both deceased. His death was registered No.185 at Glasgow (District of Shettleston) on the following day by Mary Taggart, Daughter, Present.

1918 Josephine Colvin was born at 5h30m a.m. on Wednesday, September 4 at 52 Eastmuir [Street], Glasgow to Thomas Colvin, Joiner (Journeyman) and Helen Colvin m.s. Donnelly who married on July 14, 1910 at Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.519 at Shettleston on the same day by Thomas Colvin, Father.
Sadly, Josephine lived only 45 minutes.

1951 Daniel Colvin, Canon, Roman Catholic Church, (Single) died at 6h30m p.m. on December 8 at 28 Weir Street, Coatbridge aged 74 years, of Myocardial degeneration, Broncho-pneumonia, Cardiac Failure as certified by P. McKillop, MBChB. His parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Roadman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGhie, both deceased.
