The Family of Michael Mullen & Mary McIntee, 1858

Michael Mullen and Mary McIntee married in Ireland in December 1858. They seem to have come to Scotland sometime between 1860 and 1864, bringing with them one child, Thomas.


1870 Michael Mullen was born at 0h0m noon on Saturday, November 19 at New Light, Tollcross, Lanark to Michael Mullen, Brusher in Pit and Mary Mullen m.s. McIntee who married in Ireland in December 1858. His birth was registered No.255 at Shettleston on December 9 by Michael Mullen, "his X mark", Father.

He was baptised by Fr. Patrick McLaughlin in the parish of St. Paul's, Eastmuir on December 18 with sponsors Edward Gargan and Ann Clark.


1871 April 3 The family were living at 8 Causeyside Street, Tollcross in a house with one windowed room.

There appears to be some confusion as to Catherine's birthplace, I'll check that sometime.


1873 Helen was born on Wednesday, February 26.

She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on March 9 with sponsors Patrick McLean and Mary McLean.


1873 On November 25, Mrs Mary Mullen was sole sponsor at the baptism of Jane, lawful child of James McGee and Jane Lafferty in St Paul's, Eastmuir. [No known connection with the Lightburn McGees.]


1877 Mary was born on August 1.

She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on September 9 with sponsors Anthony Murray and Sarah McLean.


1881 April 3 The family of Michael Mullen were living in Causieside St., Tollcross, in a house in which two room had one or more windows.

1882 Sarah Mullen was born on Thursday, April 27.

She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Shettleston on May 7 with sponsors Hugh Vincent McPake and Elizabeth McCartney.


1891 April 5 The family were living at 47 Easterhill Street, Tollcross in a house with two windowed rooms.

The Family of Michael Mullen & Annie Colvin, 1895

Annie Colvin was born on September 15, 1868 in Lightburn, Shettleston Parish to Margaret McGee [c1839 - 1905] and Daniel Colvin [c1837 - 1917]. [See Section CL-6-1 for family background.]

Michael Mullen was born on November 19, 1870, in Tollcross, Shettleston Parish to Mary McIntee [c1840 - ] and Michael Mullen [c1840 - ]. [See above for family background.]


1895 On Tuesday, January 1, Michael and Annie were married by Patrick Gaule, RCC, in St. Paul's RC Church, Shettleston after Publication according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.8 at Shettleston on January 3.

Annie was a Spinster, aged 26 [unusually honest about her age for a Colvin woman], no occupation recorded and usual residence as Lightburn, Shettleston. Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee.

Michael was a Bachelor, gave his age as 23 [he was 24], occupation Coalminer and usual residence 47 Easterhill Street, Tollcross. His parents are recorded as Michael Mullen, Coalminer, and Mary Mullen, M.S. McIntee.

The witnesses were Jas. M Taylor and Mary Colvin.


1898 Mary McIntee Mullen was born at 5h15m a.m. on Friday, October 7 at French's Land, Dunlop Street, Tollcross to Michael Mullen, Coal Miner and Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin who married on January 1, 1895 at Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.504 at Shettleston on October 11 by Michael Mullen, Father.


1901 March 31 Michael and Annie were living at Catherine Place, [on the east side of] Dunlop [now Corbett] Street, Tollcross. There were 20 houses sharing this address.

1902 Daniel Colvin Mullen was born at 4h15m a.m. on Monday, February 3 at 52 Easterhill Street, Tollcross to Michael Mullen, Coal Miner and Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin who married on January 1, 1895 at Shettleston. His birth was registered No.86 at Shettleston on February 9 by Michael Mullen, Father.


1933 Ann Mullen, Widow of Michael Mullen, Colliery Underground Fireman, died at 5h0m a.m. on Saturday, September 9 at 107 Causewayside Street, Tollcross, aged 64 years, of Carcinoma of Colon, 6 months, as certified by Joseph Dunn, MBChB. Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGhee, both deceased. Her death was registered No.181 at Baillieston (District of Old Monkland West) on September 11 by Daniel Mullen, Son, Present.


1936 On Friday, August 14, Daniel Colvin Mullen married Elizabeth Carroll at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Tollcross After Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.113 at Baillieston (District of Old Monkland West) on August 17.

Daniel was a Bachelor, aged 34, occupation Contractor's Labourer and usual residence 958 Tollcross Road, Glasgow. His parents are recorded as Michael Mullen, Coal Miner and Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin, both deceased.

Elizabeth was a Spinster, gave her age as 28, occupation Confectionery Worker and usual residence 958 Tollcross Road, Glasgow. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Carroll, Coal Miner (deceased) and Catherine Carroll, previously McGhee, m.s. Scanlan.

The celebrant was John Rogan, Clergyman, St Mary's R.C. Church, Hamilton and the witnesses were Henry Evitt, 5 Nuneaton Street, Bridgeton and Catherine Carroll, 958 Tollcross Road, Glasgow.
