This picture was taken by
Wm Hall, 21 Argyle Street
(opposite Virginia Street), Glasgow
who first appears in the
Glasgow Post Office Directory
for 1880 - 1881.

 On the back we have
"Q's Great-Grandmother - late 19thC"
and on the page beside it, "(Colvins?)" .

Only one of Queenie's great grandmothers
lived near Glasgow, Sarah (Dunigan) McGee.

Assuming it is the Colvins, who are the children? If we accept a 2 year difference in ages, if the older is a boy, then it's Thomas and Susan in 1882. (I know small boys wore skirts in those days but a 2½-year-old in a dress like that?) If the older is a girl, then it's Susan and Bessie in 1884.

Plus Margaret (McGee) and Dan Colvin (left)
and my guess would be John McGee.

Sister Josephine (Susan Colvin)

entered the convent of the Sisters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul in Dumfries in 1904, taught there for many years then became dietician for the order's establishments in the West of Scotland, based at Smyllum Park Orphanage, Lanark. During this period she was often in residence at St. Vincent's, Tollcross where these pictures were taken.

GLK005 And this one came via Australia.

It looks to be of the same period,
but who is the child?

Gerard thinks she (?) is probably family
rather than a stray from Smyllum Park.
The background looks like St Vincent's, Tollcross.

Elizabeth Colvin married Patrick Kerr in 1909

and they went to Australia. These images are supplied by their grandson Gerard Kerr of Penrith, NSW.
