Slides — 1979 - ’82

These early slides are undated so I have relied on non-comprehensive diary notes to recreate the timeline.

Waverley at Granton — Saturday, 30 May 1981

Waverley to Tighnabruaich — Saturday, 5 August 1978

These are not slides and it's not 1979 but since this is my first recorded trip on Waverley, I have decided to include it here.

HMY Britannia was due at Greenock from Friday July 28 prior to The Queen's arrival on Monday August 7.
She (Britannia, not the Queen) was unable to berth because of industrial action by civilian workers at the RN bases
(who were to have provided the tugs) so anchored off at the Tail of the Bank.

Doon the Watter — Summer 1979 probably

There is a logic to this sequence, from Glasgow to Rothesay, and the people featured suggest an office outing from Dalkeith. However, I do not remember Largs as a standard Saturday call which leads me to think that images from more than one trip may have been merged in a sort of "logical route" scheme. It is also possible that some were taken in 1980.

PS Waverley on the Forth — Saturday, 30 May 1981

Waverley was over-booked for this cruise - as far as I remember an agent had sold X tickets rather than tickets for X passengers - and a lot of people were left at Granton, including me and some others from the office.

PS Waverley on the Clyde — Saturday, 4 July 1981

Slightly odd for a Saturday sail but I have a diary entry for Waverley on that date. Again, this might be a conflation from more than one cruise.

So far so good, but if I was ashore at Rothesay, how did I get to Loch Striven? And Millport on a Saturday?

Waverley to Campbeltown — a Wednesday

This appears to be Ayr to Campbeltown and Sanda, but, judging by the light, the first four were taken on a previous evening.

And that's it for Waverley sailings. Off to Paris next.
