Life continues as normal, sailing on Waverley, chasing steam trains and little else.

Steaming around the Bristol Channel — from Friday, 8 June 1990

Dave and I went for a few days down south, a weekend of Waverley sailings followed by visits to various steam powered railways. I think we drove down on the Thursday and stayed overnight in B&B in Porthcawl. I found a credit card slip for a payment to Waverley Excursions on June 4 for 103.70, probably the tickets for both of us.

Day 1 - Friday, June 8 — The scheduled sailing from Porthcawl to Ilfracombe was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions offshore so we were offered and accepted a coastal cruise to Swansea with coach return. (Fare 4.95 and save the pre-booked ticket for another day.)

Leaving Porthcawl

On returning to Porthcawl, we drove to Clevedon where we found a rather nice B&B just up from the pier, with an excellent view out to sea. On Saturday morning, the lady of the house asked what we wanted for breakfast, anything we liked, we asked for kippers. She hadn't bargained for that so we had something else. On Sunday morning, she didn't ask, she just put the kippers down in front of us. She'd been at the market in Bristol on Saturday afternoon and called at the fishmonger.

Day 2 - Saturday, June 9 — Depart Sharpness Old Dock at 09:15, calling at Clevendon (11:00) with time ashore at Ilfracombe (14:00 - 16:00), returning to Clevedon (19:15), Sharpness (21:15) and Clevedon again at 23:15.

We drove to Sharpness in the morning, there being a sad lack of public transport, and got off there in the evening, a better balanced day than sailing from Clevedon.
