These images precede my obsession with recording my travels, so the narrative is from memory which may be unreliable.
For my trip to New Zealand (January - March 1979, slides 1 - 260), I bought an SLR camera (Ricoh XR1) and decided to use slide film. On my return, I continued to use slides. Over the years, I have scanned most (so far) of the slides and tried to organise them in an accessible way. Herewith, part of the result.
In the early days, I sorted my slides thematically, rather than chronologically. Short of dis-mounting them all to try to recreate individual films, all I can be sure of is that all of these were taken in 1979 - 1981. Some of them were scanned many years ago; I have not bothered to re-scanned them so they may be somewhat lacking in colour accuracy.
These slides are mostly undated and are filed (and numbered) as three separate groups but I have merged them here thematically. They span Summer 1979 to (at least) October 1981.

Some of the ornamental stonework above the main door was badly eroded and it was decided to effect repairs. A start was made one summer replacing a few bits, with the bulk of the work being done the following year. I don't remember whether it was 1979 & 1880 or 1980 & '81.

On Saturday, 31 October 1981, the Earl of Dalkeith (Richard Montague-Douglas-Scott) married Elizabeth Kerr, daughter of the Marquis of Lothian in the Episcopalian church in the grounds of Dalkeith House and the reception was held in style in marquees in front of the House. My invitation must have got lost in the post but I took these photos of the preparations during the previous week.
