Legend has it that the Dunnes fled Antrim in Cromwellian times and started afresh in South Tipperary. Griffith's Valuation of that area, compiled in 1853, shows the following taxable residents in the townland of Carrigeen -
Sundry photographs of family and friends around the ancestral home of the Dunnes.

Some pictures of Lena for want of a better place to put them. On the left, from her own collection, on the North Bridge, Edinburgh around 1920, on the right, probably in Princes Street about 1935.

Two photos from Lena Dunne's collection, much earlier than the others. The Careys lived up the road towards Cashel and I have included the Slinsbys since they've got a wonderful house. (And I wouldn't like them to feel left out.)

This photo was taken during a cycle trip from Dublin to Sligo (Mikey lived on the South Circular Road, Dublin. Jim might have been his father and his mother might have been a Carey.) |

No names on the next group but thought to be the Fahey family in Dublin. There is an interesting photographer's mark on the reverse dated May 31, 1939.

And finally, prior to renovations carried out in 1992-3, the Church of St John the Baptist, Powerstown, Clonmel had the following dedication on one of the Stations of the Cross
IN MEMORY OF Reverend JOHN FAHEY OF CARRIGEEN
WHO DIED OF FEVER IN MEMPHIS, USA Aug 6th, 1879,
Aged 32 years.
BY HIS AFFLICTED MOTHER. R.I.P.
After which, I'd better add that there is a stained glass window dedicated to the Dunnes in the church in Newinn.
