[I am still using circumstantial evidence to connect the documented Edward Dunne in Victoria with Uncle Ned., but it's pretty strong. We have photographs of E. A Dunne, Dot, Mr. and Mrs Whelan, J. Cook and Flora with children Teddy and Bernie etc. I'll be surprised if I've got the wrong man.]
Edward Dunne was born in Co. Tipperary about 1861 to Margaret Toban and Edmund Dunne, Farmer. [See Section DN-5-1 for family background.]

St. Alipius Church, Oakleigh
1880 - 1936[In Butler's Lives of the Saints, St. Alipius is mentioned in the passing as an 'also' for August 15, Feast of the Assumption. He was a bishop, born at Tagaste, "a small town of Numidia in Africa, not far from Hippo" [near the Mediterranean coast of Algeria just west of the border with Tunisia], "of which town [ie Tagaste] the great St. Augustine was also a native". However, he does get several mentions in the life of St. Augustine (born November 13, 354, converted 386, died August 28, 430, feast day August 28), as a friend and confident.
There is another St. Alipius' Church in Ballarat East. I'm told Alipius was the Christian name of the bishop at the time these churches were established.]

Kate, Ned, Lena, groom ?The following is his farewell message to Lena, written in her autograph book.
To my darling niece Lena 22/9/24
Since first I received a letter from you some years ago in far away Australia, you kindled and it enshrined in my mind the longing I would one day meet you, and greet you, and my brother (your father), and your sisters. Thanks to God my dream was realised on the 15/7/24 I met you in reality, And I have pleasure in here recording the delightful and happy times I have had in company of yourself and them. Do try and remember the happy and delightful days we spent (and the nights) in our childhoods home when by its fireside we learned to lisp Mama's at our Mother's knee. Now do remember later years, you in youthful bloom, womanhood, I declining years. The happy and delightful days and nights spent in the same old home a few weeks ago and all the other places that you and I spent our happy holidays together to numerous here to record but will always bring happy and fond recollection to me when far away from you, Lena, and you I beg to be good enough and try and recollect.
The time is fast approaching when I'll have to cross the sea
And the parting from you Lena darling
Will be hard and sad for me
But though the ocean will divide us the golden
thoughts of fond and loving memory will entwine
All around us, though far apart we be
But though far from you I roam I will always
Remember our pleasant days at home
You but I never can forget and will always fondly
Remember theeYour Wizend Uncle Ned
