9) John Kelly and Paddy McBride
The two men talk about accidents that happened in IRA camps in Co. Derry during the Truce period (Northern Offensive). McBride tells story of gun going off in a house. This is told in context of another incident where a young Volunteer was killed accidentally and buried secretly in the local graveyard.

8) James Harkin
Talks about the collapse of the IRA in the North in May 1922 and how most people went to Donegal. He never went himself. Remained on the run and was never caught. His wife jokes about he she shouldn’t have stayed with him. It was an eventful start to married life being on the run. His wife (unnamed) also states that the police raids in 1922 were not carried out with proper intelligence and they lifted the wrong people.

5) Roddy O’Kane
Crossed the border in May 1922 and ended up in the Curragh with other neutrals. Ended up in the prison after a fall out and escaped to England. Critical of northerners who fought in the Civil War. Sean Larkin for instance (executed at Drumboe in 1923).

7) Henry McGowan
Describes being arrested, taken to Ebrington Barracks, then Derry Jail, before transfer to Ballykinlar. This was June 1921, just after opening of NI parliament. He describes Ballykinlar and says that he and others were placed in 6 tents on the beach, separate from the rest of the camp. They called this the 6 counties.

Talk about a women who used to keep a cleaver by the door to threaten the Specials with. She was completely respectful with the regular police when they came to take her son away though. Even cooked them a steak before they left.
