EIT-Health UK-Ireland Innovation Day 
Wednesday, 19 July 2017 | Oxford, UK

This event will cover innovation and entrepreneurship in healthcare and new strategies to develop talents, drive business ideas forward and provide solutions to some healthcare challeneges. Hosted by the Oxford Biodesign Programme, this event will also involve exciting pitches from their current fellows.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Africa's Health
Saturday 1 July 2017 | London, UK

This event is hosted by the Africa Business Club of the Imperial College Business School to encourage collaboration and innovative solutions to some of Africa’s biggest health issues.In addition, it will enable like-minded innovative entrepreneurs, policy-makers, NGOs, academics and students to network. Some of the panelists involved in the discussions include Hilary Thomas, Partner and Chief Medical Advisor at KPMG and Tracey Austin, Head of Impact Investment at Palladium among several others.
 

GIANT Health Event 2017

Here are some highlights from GIANT 2016: 

Shafi Ahmed, PhD, FRCS, Director of Virtual Medics and Medical and GIANT Event Co-chair, highlights some of the mind-blowing exhibitions presented at the event. For example, exhibitions on virtual reality, artificial intelligence, redesigning the doctor-patient relationship using algorithms, holograms to teach anatomy and much more. Click here to watch this short video.

Headlines

HealthUnlocked expands globally

HealthUnlocked is a social networking platform that brings people together to give them the tools to share experiences of their health in a safe place. It enables people with the same condition to join groups and provide support and information to each other. Although the website launched in 2012, the app was only launched in February and has now been made available globally.

Deepmind Health agrees new 5-year deal with the NHS

This Google-owned AI company applies machine learning to medical data. Currently deployed is the Streams app which uses an algorithm to provide alerts to NHS staff when a patient might be at risk of a condition called Acute Kidney Injury. Deepmind Health already has an agreement with the Royal Free NHS Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and following this deal, now has an agreement with a hospital in the Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.

Sarah Haywood

MedCity is a collaboration between the Mayor of London, Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre, King’s Health Partners, UCL Partners, Cambridge Health Partners and Oxford Academic Health Science Centre. It Launched in April 2014 to promote and grow the world-leading life sciences cluster of England’s greater south east. It is promoting life sciences investment, entrepreneurship and industry in the region. 

Sarah Haywood was instrumental in conceiving and setting up MedCity, first as Head of Life Sciences at London & Partners, the Mayor of London’s promotional agency for the capital, and then as MedCity’s Chief Operating Officer. Now Chief Executive Officer in recognition of the range and responsibility of her role.
