Cuthbert explains how he drew inspiration from music and highlights the way that science and music are developed using similar patterns.

NHS trusts in talks with IBM over voice-activated hospital helper

IBM to introduce the voice-activated bedside speakers, which resemble Amazon’s Echo speakers and are already used in the US. It is understood that they will come to a number of hospitals in the next two years.It will be able to tell you when your test results are due, change the room temperature or lower the blinds

Virtual-reality goggles that could make thousands of facial paralysis patients feel

The virtual-reality (VR) goggles encourage sufferers to carry out the regular facial exercises needed to regain muscle function – with the wearer watching an avatar’s face doing the exercises rather than their own. Charles Nduka, consultant plastic surgeon is leading a trial into the new VR treatment which will start next year.

This week's 'Hero of health-tech innovation':

John Nosta 

He is regarded as one of the top global strategist and creative minds in the life science industry. He is also the founder of NOSTALAB--a think tank focused on navigating change in an exponential world for the life science industry. 

Nosta helps define, dissect and deliberate global trends in digital health. Beyond simply an influencer, John is also defined as “most admired” to “top disruptor” in digital health, life sciences and the pharmaceutical industry. He is also a member of the Google Health Advisory Board and was a GIANT editorial board member last year.

Amazing students doing fantastic health tech innovation

Kevin Ampeh - Imperial College London 

Kevin is currently a Master of Public Health student who is passionate about digital health and health-tech innovation. This was demonstrated after him and his team won the Imperial College HealthHack 2017 for developing a virtual reality game for 4-18 year olds which incorporated the physiotherapy people with cystic fibrosis must do daily. In addition, he is head of delegate sales at The GIANT Health Event.
