Here are some highlights from GIANT 2016: 

Aubrey De Grey, MA, PhD, Chief Science Officer and co-founder of SENS Research foundation, discussed with us the fact that many diseases including chronic cancer, are the result of ageing. He believes that by tackling ageing of cells, we can address many of the issues associated with poor health. Click here to watch this short video.

Ben Hwang, MA, PhD, Chairman and CEO of Profusa, a company innovating in diagnostics and real-time disease monitoring, talks to us about how continuous data sensors could transform the way we monitor patients’ disease progression and treatment efficacy. Ben shows us the device that Profusa have developed, which can be placed inside the body to monitor molecular changes in the blood over a year or more. Click here to watch this short video.

The three UK healthtech start-ups joining Pifzer's UK accelerator

The three businesses will now have access to Pfizer’s expertise and leverage contacts to help get their technology solutions adopted by the NHS. Cera is a digital homecare platform that helps users pick the right carer for loved ones with illnesses. App-based platform Echo allows users to manage their medication and ensure their repeat prescriptions are delivered straight to their door by first class Royal Mail. GiveVision offers the visually impaired a wearable headset called SightPlus – which aims to improve their sight.

Suicide prevention help and support app in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire

The Stay Alive app, which is the UK’s first suicide prevention app, was created by the charity Grassroots Suicide Prevention. The app was launched last week and includes quick access to UK national crisis support helplines, A mini-safety plan that can be filled out by a person thinking about suicide and How to help a person who may be thinking about ending their life.
